Chocolate Factory for Fergusson Mann Architects
Model @ 1:250 & 1:100 scale
Materials - acrylic, styrene and CNC’d model board
This model is of a proposed development of the Elizabeth Shaw Chocolate Factory in Bristol.
The many scheme buildings include a certain amount of detail while the surrounded context buildings are in simple block form.
It was felt that contours wouldn’t work for this model so we CNC routed the landscaping and added thin paving pads.
We wanted the model to be a predominantly white model letting the form of the buildings speak for themselves, whilst choosing a pale grey to distinguish the roads and grey/green for the grass and trees.
The scale of 1:250 allows a certain amount of detail to be shown including window fenestration, signage and simple balcony handrails.
To communicate a higher level of detail we made a 1:100 scale model.
This is a sectional model which allows the viewer to see the interior of two of the buildings and also how they connect with each other.
This was sprayed white and sits on a birch ply base.
At 1:100 scale we could really get into the detail of the connecting roof glazing, the interior balconies and staircase.
