Selection of models for RSHP
Barajas Airport 1:200
This simple yet effective sketch model was made early in the design process to help the architects visualise floor plates and their relationship with the roof.
The floorplates are made from foamboard and the roof panels are vac-formed styrene.
This sort of model can be made very quickly to solve early design problems before any detail is added.
Mutua Tower 1:500
This tower was made whilst Matt worked at the in-house Richard Rogers modelshop.
The model is an abstract representation for a competition entry.
The body of the tower consists of three lime timber blocks which the gaps between the floorplates have been machined away on the table saw.
The four spikes each are made from two tall triangles of etched brass and the façades are etched silver nickel bent around the timber blocks.
Two vacuum formed clear acrylic pieces represent the glazing and the tower sits on a maple veneered base with cork trees.
Protos Winery 1:500
This baseboard was made by us at 3DCreate for the model making department at RSHP to add the scheme building.
The base comprises of maple veneer contours and lime timber context buildings, some with a darker coloured veneer for the roofs to match the roof on the scheme building.
We are very happy to assist in-house modelmaking teams by building the base boards ready to fit their scheme models.
Monte Carlo 1:500
Much like the Protos Winery above we were asked to make a timber baseboard of Monte Carlo including lime context buildings to fit their scheme model
Due to the steep landscaping of the city there were many veneer contours to this model and it even includes a road tunnel.
Manta 1:1000
This simple concept model was made by Matt whilst working at RSHP.
It largely consists of a black acrylic base with road scored on and coloured live-edge acrylic to represent trees and the scheme in a very abstract way.
